Course 136: Quaboag CC
Nines holes in Monson, Mass.

When I check off a new golf course, I post a review on Instagram. If you are interested in reading the review early, and reading some additional thoughts that go beyond the Instagram caption limit, you can become a Supporter or Founder.
Quaboag CC is a nine-hole course in Western Mass. that climbs up and down some good land and provides some lovely views. It's a low-key place. When I arrived, I was able to jump out early with a father and son who were making the turn. The tee sheet is more a suggestion than a rule when things are quiet, even on a Saturday morning. One guy was warming up by hitting 20-yard pitch shots from one tee box to another before his partners arrived.
Overall, the course has that tired feel to it. The facilities are worn down, and the course, while in okay shape, has trees blocking shots and overhanging greens. It's a place one could imagine, with just a little more money, could be a wonderful town golf course for players of all abilities.

The par 5 ninth hole
During the round, it is tough to find flat lies, which is good. The course has some nice climbs and tough uphill and downhill shots. There is not much trouble if a player keeps their ball in the middle of the course. Stately, old trees will bother players if they hit it a little crooked.
The seventh hole is a hilarious 251-yard half-par hole. I had 8-iron, 3-wood, and driver with me on the tee.

The seventh hole.

Looking back down the seventh
The standout holes were the fourth and sixth. The fourth is a short par 5 with a tee box perched up high, tempting players to swing hard. A fellow in the clubhouse said the fourth and fifth are up in "Moose Country" as they traverse across a little plateau.
The sixth comes out of the trees and out of "Moose Country" back to the clubhouse. The green is the most severe on the course.
The nine holes give players choices off the tee if they want to hit various clubs and the greens have a little character to them. Interior slopes and tiers made putting engaging.
Is QCC a course I would recommend people drive 80 minutes to play like I did?
No.
However, it was a solid additional nine holes on my day trip out to Western Mass on a beautiful fall day.
