A hint of optimism at Cape Cod CC
+ News, Notes, and weekly favorites
Hey Everyone,
There seems to be a little momentum in the fight to keep Cape Cod Country Club open. The story made its way into Forbes this week, and a significant groundswell of support emerged at a recent town meeting, raising some doubt about the timing and pace of the project. That’s a good thing.
Knockdown Golf posted a story with some updates. Go to his account here and pick the “Save CCCC” highlight on his profile.
There is a town hall meeting on Nov. 17 where the course will be a topic on the agenda, as far as I know. I plan on attending. And I plan on wearing this t-shirt.

I plan on donating the profits from the sale to a worthy charity. I am not sure where yet, I want to get that part right, but know that it will go to a good cause. I’m not just trying to make money from this.
If you have any suggestions of groups that have a connection to the course or the area that might benefit from a donation, please let me know. I have a few in mind, but would love to hear from you.
Let’s get to News and Notes from the week. A few trophies were handed out…
News and Notes
Pro Golf
🔨 Michael Thorbjornsen is back playing in the Bank of Utah Championship. He shot a 70 (-1) in the first round.
He’s in good shape to retain his PGA Tour card next year. He’s 88th in the FedEx Cup standings. He finished third in his last start at the Baycurrent Classic in Japan. Live Scoring
🏌️ Ethan Whitney played well in the First Stage of PGA Tour Q-School but couldn’t advance to the Second Stage. He shot 64-71-72-70 and missed the cut by a single shot. Just brutal. Results
🏌️ Boomer Erick, the Boston Golf Club head pro (and son of Carson Erick), is in contention at the PGA Professional Championship in Florida. He shot an opening round 69 (-3) and sits in second place. Six pros from Massachusetts are in the field. After the second round, the field will be cut to the low 90 and ties for the weekend.

College Golf
✅ Most college teams in Massachusetts and New England have wrapped up their season. I have compiled the results for the men’s and women’s teams from Massachusetts, along with the individual results of players who are from Massachusetts but play on a team outside of the Bay State.
Here are this week’s results. 👇️
🟣 Holy Cross hosted the Crusader Invitational at Worcester CC. Siena won the event. Holy Cross finished in fourth, and Merrimack came in tenth. The Holy Cross B team finished 12th.
Chad Correia (Norton, Mass.) finished runner-up for Bryant and Ryan Scollins (Wrentham, Mass.) finished T15 for Holy Cross. Results

🦅 The Boston College Women dominated in the Diamante Intercollegiate. They won by 18 shots over Seattle U. BC’s Frances Kim shot 66-75-65 (-10) to win the individual tournament by two shots over her teammate Cynthia Zhang. Results
🏆️ Harvard’s Vanessa Zhang won the Lady Blue Hen Invitational and helped the Crimson finish in third place. Results
🐬 Holy Cross finished 7th in the Lady Dolphin Invitational hosted by Le Moyne in Syracuse. Julianna Megan and Kate Hong were the low Crusaders, both finished T22. Results.
🏌️ Aidan O'Donovan (Somerville, Mass.) finished T6 in the Nassau Championship, helping URI win the tournament. Tyler Bruneau (Concord, Mass.) finished 24th. Results
🐺 Joey Lenane (Dedham, Mass.) had an exceptional performance at the Williams Cup. He finished T7. The top ten included five Walker Cup players from this year’s event. Lenane beat world No. 1 amateur Jackson Koivun by a shot. No big deal. Results
⚓️ Ryan Downes was named SEC Golfer of the Week on the heels of his first collegiate win at the Bryson Invitational.

🏆️ Xavierian won the Division 1 State Championship on Tuesday at The Ridge Club with a score of 313. St. John’s Prep (320) and Braintree (324) rounded out the top three.
Chris Morrow, the Mass. Junior championship runner-up this summer, won the individual title. He shot 74 and needed a playoff to beat Conor Henrey (Longmeadow) and Owen Shea (Arlington) in a playoff. A par on the first playoff hole sealed the victory.
⛳️ Due to bad weather on Monday, the Division 2 (Oct. 28 at Taconic 🤤) and Division 3 (Oct. 27. at Blissful Meadows) championships will be held next week.
🏌️ Also, the New England Interscholastic Golf Championship will be held at Mohegan Sun Golf Club. The boys will play on Sunday and the girls will play on Monday.
Plugs
Over the coming weeks, I will be releasing more course reviews. I have eight in the hopper. Paid subscribers to the newsletter get early access to read these reviews before they show up on Instagram. They also get access to my additional thoughts about each course. That might include something personal, additional images, or expanding on something from the main review.
If you’d like to support my coverage of the local golf scene, golf courses, and general golf stuff from around world, a paid membership is a great way to keep this train on the tracks.
When I’m not golfing…
I’m reading…
💰️ There’s going to be a million articles about this NBA gambling and poker story. Bruce Arthur’s article is at least one you should read.
🇮🇪 Foster by Claire Keegan is another lovely, short book set in rural Ireland.
⛰️ While we were in Vermont this weekend, we ventured into Northshire Bookstore (incredible place) and I poked around for a book about the Green Mountain Boys. I came across Those Turbulent Sons of Freedom by Christopher Wren.
I’m drinking…
🥃 Had a couple old-fashioned cocktails over the weekend up in Vermont.
I’m eating…
🍔 Had an incredible burger at The Copper Grouse in Manchester, Vermont.
🧁 Concord Tea Cakes makes a bevy of delicious cupcakes.
🧀 We stopped in Brattleboro and popped into the Vermont Country Deli. We picked up a ready-to-bake mac and cheese and some maple pulled pork. Great combo for dinner when we got home.
I’m watching…
🐴 Slow Horses… again, if you’re not watching this show, you’re making a mistake. It’s worth the subscription to Apple TV.
🏘️ The Perfect Neighbor on Netflix was an insane documentary told only through police body camera and interview footage. No talking heads. No narration. Riveting stuff.
