Hey Everyone,

I played a new course this week and revisited a course I hadn’t played in four years.

First, I played Heather Hill, a course that is closing on August 30. This is where PGA Tour player Davis Chatfield played his high school golf for Bishop Feehan. I was lucky to play with Davis’ brother, Patrick, and his Uncle Bud. It’s a wild place to play. The fairways are burned out and patchy, but the greens were outstanding. The owners also own Wentworth Hills just down the street.

Second, I am playing Boston Golf Club Friday morning. This was course No. 10 on the quest, and I have been fortunate to return a few times. As I type this on Thursday evening, I am very excited to get back there.

Golf is the best. I played with new people on Thursday, and my round on Friday is with an old friend from middle school, along with a friend I worked with at summer camp back in the day.

Williamstown Golf Trip

Williamstown is a solid place to visit for a weekend of golf. There are 45 holes across three courses and a bunch of other things to do if you find yourself with some free time.

Places to Golf

Taconic GC

Taconic - Williamstown, Mass.

Rate: $180 for 18 holes

One of my favorite courses in the state. You can call the pro shop five days in advance, so this means a trip might require a bit of flexibility. Afternoon and evening tee times are easier to get, so you could do something in the morning or play another round somewhere else. The patio is lovely for lunch. There’s no range, but there is a net and a chipping area.

Waubeeka GL - Williamstown, Mass.

Rate: $60/$80 for 18 holes weekday/weekend

About ten minutes from Taconic, Waubeeka is a good course at a reasonable price. It plays over some rugged land with rolling hills and meandering streams. They have a good range, which sometimes has grass instead of mats. There’s an outdoor area and a restaurant on the property, too.

Forest Park CC - Adams, Mass.

Rate: $20 for 9 holes

Forest Park is kind of what puts this area over the top as far as making it a weekend trip. It’s a cheap course that’s laid back. It’s about 20 minutes from Williamstown. The course is in the shadow of Mt. Greylock, so it has some hills to walk and some wild shots to hit. The greens are tiny, but they are in good shape. A perfect place to cap off an evening with some beers, a half set, and a few bucks to gamble with friends.

Things to do

Visit the top of Mount Greylock - Adams, Mass.

This is the highest point in Mass. You can hike it or drive it. It offers some incredible views. We were fortunate enough to watch some paragliders start their flights from the top.

Clark Museum - Williamstown, Mass.

I have heard that the Clark Museum was created to keep art that was valuable enough to need protection from potential nuclear attacks during the Cold War. They have an incredible art collection, cool trails, and outdoor space.

Mass MOCA - North Adams, Mass.

Modern art isn't for everyone! But this is a cool place, and there are a few restaurants and Bright Ideas Brewing is all within walking distance once you park.

Places to eat and drink

Plates in Williamstown

Bright Ideas is in the shadow of Mass MOCA. Great beer and a few snacks. Even if you don’t have time to sit and have a beer, they sell some to go. If you are hungry, you can order food and eat it in their space, either inside or outside.

Good sandwiches and wraps. You can order food from here and eat it at Bright Ideas.

Very good Mexican spot next to Mass MOCA.

Across the street from Mass MOCA

Incredible Greek spot on Main St. in Williamstown.

Live music and great food in the Williamstown Inn. Firepits and cocktails, too.

Perfect for a pre-round breakfast and coffee. Walking distance from Taconic.

Local tavern with a divey bar vibe and an outdoor patio.

High-end dining in North Adams, connected to Tourists Hotel.

Places to stay

This converted roadside hotel is a high-end spot with an outdoor pool, hiking, and excellent breakfast. A splurgy stay.

Right in Williamstown. Walking distance to Taconic.

Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites

Just on the edge of town and walkable to Main St and Water St.

Various Airbnb spots

All sorts of places of various sizes and prices. We recently stayed at 208 Water St. A great spot with 2 bedrooms. The top of the driveway looks across at Taconic.

Extra Golf

There’s all sorts of golf between eastern Mass and Williamstown.

  • Crumpin Fox if you're driving home along Route 2

  • The Ranch if you're driving back along Mass Pike.
