When I check off a new golf course, I post a review on Instagram. If you are interested in reading the review early, you can become a Supporter or Founder.

Dennis Pines is named appropriately. The course weaves and winds through trees, requiring a good amount of accuracy off the tee and some knowledge about what line to pick.

It's a good test.

What stood out about the course was how, even with the abundance of trees, there was some space to play. The underbrush in the woods was tidy, so errant shots could be found and advanced. That isn't always the case on courses like Dennis Pines, so that was a great bit of maintenance work.

There is a plethora of doglegs with a bunker on the inside of the hole, especially early in the round.

The front plays easier than the back nine. The back starts with three holes that don't quite match the rest of the course and create a lot of discomfort, especially the tee shots on the 10th and 11th holes. Both holes wrap around a pond to the right. The effect of these holes is like a bowl, and the holes play along the banked slopes. Shots even remotely close to the water collect down into it.

The 12th is a boomerang par five. The last six holes provide a good test, featuring some challenging holes and tough shots. The arrow straight, bunkerless 14th is one of the best holes on the course. The 16th is a short par 4 that tempts players to take on the hazard on the left if they're long enough off the tee. The 17th is a strong downhill par 3.

The greens aren't terribly interesting to putt or play into for the most part. The ninth green stood out, as it is demanding on the approach because it looks small, when in reality it's not, and it slopes quite a bit from left to right.

The par-5 fifth also had a cool greensite with some short grass, mounding, and bunkers.

The course can play just a shade under 7000 yards from the tips. It's an excellent challenge for players seeking a course that is well-maintained, tight, yet fair. It's undoubtedly one that players could unlock over a few rounds
