Bayberry Links is a strong nine-hole challenge with wide-open corridors and big, sloped greens.
The round starts and ends with a par 3; the middle seven holes are played on the other side of a tunnel. There is a nice mix of holes at Bayberry Links. It features some long and short par 4s that play over subtle, rolling land. The two par fives are both legit holes. They are reachable with some considerable length.
While the landscape is open and expansive, fescue and long grass come into play and can gobble up golf balls. There are some blind shots, too, due to the mounding around the course.
The greens are massive and sloped, making them interesting to putt. Players could walk off the ninth green having hit every one of them in regulation and wondering why they didn't make a birdie.
Holes 6 and 7 are an exceptional duo.
The short par-4 7th hole
The sixth is a demanding uphill 433-yard par 4. The landing area is protected by a big bunker on the left. The long second shot is to a deep green that is slightly perched up, so there isn't really any chance of rolling a ball onto the green. It's an aerial hole that plays every inch of its length. That green also offers one of the best views of the property.
The 320-yard 7th is a fabulous partner for the challenging 6th. Players have three buckets to hit their tee shot into. They can play it safe and lay in the first bucket, take on the bunkers and leave it in the second bucket, or challenge the green and blast it into the third bucket.
The par-3 9th hole
Players can see the entire hole from the tee box, which is a rarity at Bayberry Links, too. It plays all downhill and pairs nicely with the sixth hole.
One frustrating thing about Bayberry Links is it feels like the routing keeps players in the ground. There's one moment where the course reveals itself (6th green), and otherwise, the course is hiding as players walk between the mounding on each hole.
The bunkering on all 27 holes at Bayberry looks the same, which is just an odd stylistic choice that I think is rather unattractive.
