Leo J. Martin Renovation Meeting

+ News, Notes, and weekly favorites

Hey Everyone,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

We’re going to keep this one quick. I’m grateful that you even opened this email.

🗓️ There was some interesting news this week regarding Leo J. Martin. A virtual meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 3, will detail some potential changes to the course. Will be interesting to see what they have in store and what input they’re willing to receive.

News and Notes

Pro Golf

🔨 Michael Thorbjornsen finished T7 in the RSM Classic last week. He was in the final group on Sunday and really turned his season around. I detailed three things that helped him improve from March to November in Monday’s Small Bucket.

🏌️ Megan Khang shot 72- 70-71-73 (-2) and finished T51 in the CME Group Tour Championship.

👂️ Alexa Pano earned her LPGA Tour Card for next year. She was on the Monday Q Podcast with Ryan French this week to talk about a tough year and grinding to sneak inside the top 100, finishing at 97. Listen here.

🏌️‍♂️ Chris Francoeur, Jimmy Hervol, and Peter French are sharpening their games down in Florida on the Minor League Golf Tour. The Second Stage of Q-School starts on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Also on this leaderboard is Maine’s Cole Anderson.

📆 There’s a lot of chatter about changing the schedule on the PGA Tour. Harris English spilled the beans last week about a potential post-Super Bowl start to the season and 20ish events.

I want to pin one thing that no one is talking about… pushing the PGA Tour season back to mid-February leaves a lot of time for TGL to get shoved down our throats without the logistical challenge of players travelling from TPC Scottsdale to Flroida to hit golf shot into a screen.

Amateur Golf

🏌️ MassGolf announced its Player of the Year Awards. Matt Parziale won his tenth PoY Award. Shannon Johnson also repped the Mid-Ams (Hell Yeah!) as the Women’s PoY after an exceptional season.

  • Men’s: Matt Parziale

  • Women’s: Shannon Johnson

  • Boys’ Junior: Thomas Constantine

  • Girls’ Junior: Maddie Smith

  • Women’s Senior: Tara Connelly

  • Men’s Senior: Brendan Hester

  • Super Senior: Steve Tasho

  • Women’s Mid-Am: Shannon Johnson

I have something fun cooking for a 2025 recap of courses and players coming in December.

When I’m not golfing…

I’m reading

📖 Finished A Long Winter by Colm Tóibín was very good. A fast read at 125 pages.

I’m eating…

I’m drinking…

🍺 Foam Brewery’s Sophisticated Seagull is a great IPL.

🍸️ Standing in line at the liquor store, I grabbed two Tip Top canned cocktails - Bee’s Knees and Old Fashioned.

I’m watching…

🧪 Stranger Things is back. The kids are now full-grown adults, and it’s been so long since the last season that the show that taps into nostalgia is now its own version of nostalgia!
