Jake Bauer - Franklin, Mass.
Bauer was one match away from not having to qualify for the U.S. Amateur, but Mike Calef beat him in the Rhode Island Amateur in June. Instead, he shot 70 at Wellesley CC and survived a 3-for-2 playoff over New Yorkers Phil Minnehan and Kellen Dean. Bauer won the 2018 Rhode Island Amateur. Earlier this summer, he reached U.S. Open Final Qualifying.
Mike Calef - Portsmouth, RI
The 2025 Rhode Island Amateur champion is the only player to have won both the Massachusetts and Rhode Island Amateurs. Calef was the 2012 and 2013 Mass. Amateur champ. This year, he also finished T11 in the Rhode Island Stroke Play Championship that was held in early August at Ledgemont CC.
Ryan Downes - Longmeadow, Mass.

Downes won his second Mass. Amateur championship in the last three years this July at GreatHorse. The Western Mass phenom has had a busy summer competing in some of the most prestigious events in the country. He finished 55th in the Northeast Amateur, 51stnd in the Southern Amateur, and 32nd in the Sunnehanna. He’ll start his sophomore year at Vanderbilt this fall on a team stacked with talent.
Matt Parziale - Brockton, Mass.

Parziale earned his spot in the U.S. Amateur with a great bogey-free 65 at Wellesley CC in Final Qualifying to earn medalist honors. It’s been a strong summer for Parziale, which isn’t a real surprise. In late July, Parziale won the Ouimet Memorial for the fourth time and first since 2017. He also finished 7th in the Amateur Invitational at New England CC and reached match play in the Mass. Amateur at GreatHorse. In a nod to Parziale’s national impact, he is playing with two of the best mid-amateurs in the world at Olympic. He is paired with Stewart Hagestad, possibly the best mid-amateur of this, or any, generation, and Matthew McClean, the Northern Irish player who won the U.S. Mid-Amateur at Erin Hills in 2023.
C.J. Winchenbaugh - Weston, Mass.

It was always going to be tough for Winchenbaugh to improve on his performance last summer. He won the New England Amateur and the New England Junior Amateur. Then he had an impressive U.S. Junior Amateur performance, reaching the Round of 16 before losing to Miles Russell, one of the best juniors in the world. This year, Winchenbaugh is back in another USGA Championship after shooting a 68 at Wellesley CC. This summer, he finished T12 in the New England Amateur and T11 in the Ouimet Memorial. He’ll head back to Georgetown for his sophomore year this fall.
