Hey Everyone,

Happy Fourth of July.

I spent some time at Charles River CC on Tuesday during the Willett Cup, an event that raises money for the RW Horizon Fund. It was quite the field with local amateurs and pros. Alexa Pano and Megan Khang were there just days after competing in the LPGA Championship in Minnesota. Some others, like Owen Quinn and Jack Bulger, drove up from the Rhode Island Amateur to play an afternoon round.

It’s clearly a cause that means a lot to these players.

The RW Horizon mission is to create lasting impact by bringing people together to advance brain-body wellness and educational opportunities.

I met Andre Pace, who is the first recipient of the college scholarship. He’s heading to UMass Lowell with $10,000 to spend on his education.

Rick Willett was Conner Willett's father. He passed away in July 2022, just days before Conner was supposed to play in the Mass Amateur. He would go on to win the event. An incredible story. Now they are honoring his memory with the RW Horizon Fund.

They also have a fantastic auction with rounds of golf, concerts, and vacations. Here’s a link to the auction.

I also got to play twice this week. Teed it up at Meadows at Peabody. A tough public course north of Boston.

Then I played Oyster Harbors on Wednesday. What a golf course. It’s one I could play every day. It’s challenging, thought-provoking, and timeless. An easy walk with exceptional bunkers. There’s no incredible hole, but there also isn’t a single hole that stinks. My round was with Alan Rose, the recent low amateur in the Mass Open and his dad, also Alan, and his brother, Teddy. Just an awesome day all around.

John Deere Classic

Michael Thorbjornsen and Davis Chatfield were back on the course after a bit of a layoff between signature events and the majors. Thorbjornsen shot 68 (-3), and Davis Chatfield shot 69. Keegan Bradley shot 70 (-1). The leaders, Lucas Glover and Zac Blair, shot 63. Live Scoring

U.S. Senior Open

Wollaston GC head pro Jeff Martin shot a 76 in the first round at Scioto CC. Jason Caron shot 71 (+). Charlie Wi and Stewart Cink both shot 67 to hold the lead. Live Scoring

LPGA Championship

Last week at Hazeltine, Alexa Pano shot 67-76-71-71 (-3) and finished in 18th place. Megan Khang shot 68-73-79-77 (+9) and finished 66th.

Molly Smith defended home turf with a 69 (-3) at Indian Ridge. Two other golfers - Grace Carter (Jupiter, Florida) and Honorine Ferry (Flower Mound, Texas) - also shot 69. Smith and Carter won the two spots in a playoff.

U.S. Senior Amateur | Dedham C&PC | Results | MassGolf Recap

Frank Vana shot 71 (+1) to earn the third and final spot. Chris Congdon (Tampa, Florida) and Roger Holt (Delray Beach, Florida) earned co-medalist honors. Vana beat Ray Garrahan (Winchester, Mass.) in a 2-for-1 playoff.

Megan Buck (N. Easton, Mass.) shot 76 (+6), and Alexis Florio shot 77 to earn two of the four spots up for grabs. Cynthia Zhao (Canada) was the medalist, and Mercedese Large (West Hartford, Conn.) shot 76.

Maxx Zides (North Attleboro, Mass) shot 71 at New Jersey National to qualify.
