Kevin Padron's Ouimet Scholarship story

+ News, Notes, and weekly favorites

Hey Everyone,

Greetings from Ohio!

This will be a short newsletter after a long road trip out to the Midwest.

Two posts I already wrote this week:

  • I made a list of my 2025 Bay State All-Stars and broke them into five All-State Teams like the All-NBA teams. You can see them all here.

  • I wrote a Small Bucket this week about some immediate changes at Shining Rock after its sale, and I also shared a bit about Chris Francoeur’s week at Final Stage.

Paid subscribers get full access to these small bucket posts, which go out 2-3 times a month. You can upgrade here to support Bay State Golf and unlock access to all my writing.

It’s Time Ouimet with Kevin Padron

I was honored to work with the Ouimet Scholarship Foundation to film a video with Kevin Padron for their “It’s Time Ouimet” series.

He’s currently studying at Worcester State and caddying at Wellesley CC. Watch his inspiring story and then consider donating to a great cause!

News and Notes

Pro Golf

🏌️ Chris Francoeur shot 67-68-75-68 to finish T62 in the Final Stage of Q-School. He has conditional status on the Korn Ferry Tour, meaning limited starts. But he has full status on PGA Americas in 2026. Results

🏌️‍♀️ Megan Khang and Keith Mitchell finished T13 in the Grant Thornton last weekend. Results

🏌️‍♂️ Peter French and Jimmy Hervol both finished T9 in the Minor League Golf Tour Championship.  Results

🐸 Michael Thorbjornsen is the newest member of the TGL. He’s joining the Boston Common Frogs.

College Golf

📆 Believe it or not, the college season isn’t far off for some of the top programs in the country.

You can get caught up on the fall schedule and results here for Bay State teams and individuals who play around the country.

Some colleges have started releasing their spring schedules, so I’ll be updating the page over the coming weeks in preparation for the season.

Amateur Golf

🏌️ I completely missed Nick Maccario’s strong finish in last month’s Palmetto Amateur. He finished in fifth place with rounds of 69-73-68 (E). Results

☀️ 2024 Mass. Junior Champion Josiah Hakala is playing in the South Beach Invitational this weekend. It’s one of the bigger mid-season amateur events in the country. Will Gregware (Connecticut/ U. of Maryland) is also in the field. If there’s anyone else with Massachusetts or New England connections in the field, let me know! Live Scoring

⛳️ Team Massachusetts was announced this week. It features the best juniors in the state. Meet all 16 players here.

When I’m not golfing…

I’m reading

⛳️ There’s a course for sale in Michigan. You can buy it for $2.5 million

I’m listening to…

⛳️ I find some of the Shotgun Start yearly recaps a bit daunting to listen to. But this one that included The Masters was really good (and filled a good chunk of the drive to Ohio). Then McIlroy hopped onto the SGS podcast this week. Very good stuff.

🔪 True Crime Garage is always a staple of our road trips. The Vanished is another good one.

I’m watching…

🗡️ We watched two episodes of The Beast in Me. It’s very good.

💣️ This story from Royal Liverpool is wild. 👇️
